Initially I received an email where a company recruiter offered me to apply to the position. Then I had 4 phone interviews, and 5 onsite interviews (travel and lodging expenses where covered by them). The interviews aimed only to verify my technical knowledge, usually starting from hypothetical situations which you never faced before as they include thousands of servers. Previous lecture of articles in wikipedia regarding the company is a must.
