I have received an email from a recruiter about the position for a search quality associate at Google in Dublin. Although initially I did not want to apply for it as it did not fit my educational background and I had no real desire for moving to Dublin I decided to give it a try mainly because of the google brand. First I had a short phone interview with a recruiter, which was mostly a background check. The next day I received a green light for a next interview which took place a few days later. The interview was about 40 min long and mostly consisted of an extended check of my background, some standard personality questions (like how would your current boss describe you, give me an example of a conflict resolution at you work, how do you cope with menial tasks (!?), where do you see yourself in 3-10 years, etc), some simple IT questions (why do you prefer Pyton or C++, what do you know about search engine optimization, give me an example of the latest web-technology). He/she* hinted me that the job was not as challenging as I wanted and qualified for, and given the fact that I have no experience and previous interest in web-technologies I was not surprised to hear the next day that my "qualifications do not match a position". I was a bit disappointed that I did not receive some extensive test of my analytical skills (may be they are not needed or he/she was impressed enough with my CV) and was brushed off at the early stage without knowing precisely about the job content as the add was quite vague. In the end, I found the process quite fast and well structured, so I wish Google lack in finding suitable candidates. *He/she - protecting anonymity of the interviewer.
