This week's #ThrowbackThursday features circles back to GRF LA team member Francisco Gomez, whose incredible story about perseverance moved so many of us last summer. In December 2020, Francisco lost his pulse for eight minutes while running in the Griffith Park hills. Despite the tremendous odds against him, the Business Services Administrator continues to push limits and now challenges his team members in the Century City office to do the same. “I choose to face these marathons as challenges, and I face them head-on,” he says. “Despite what happened to me, I continue to push myself when it comes to my fitness and health, and running is a big part of that.” Read more in our Employee Spotlight here: https://lnkd.in/gjjxxtX7 The “Employee Spotlight” series introduces our firm’s diverse, talented professionals and highlights their notable extracurriculars. We hope their stories provide a more personal perspective of life at Gelfand, Rennert & Feldman.
Returning to school as a full-time professional can seem daunting, but navigating a healthy balance between work and education in an environment like GRF is feasible – and can be especially rewarding. Here are five tips and tricks for balancing work, school and life, courtesy of a recent GRF intern speaker seminar: 1. Create a detailed “master calendar.” Keeping a thorough calendar is crucial for tracking competing obligations like deadlines, meetings and personal appointments. Combine professional and educational milestones in one place to avoid double-booking. 2. Set and maintain realistic boundaries. That can mean disconnecting from work when reading for class or refraining from late-night phone activity after a certain hour. Blurring the lines between school, work and life may leave you feeling burned out, otherwise. 3. Carve out study time and rest periods. Make sure to pre-plan when you’ll be focusing on school work and when you’ll have time to yourself, and try to stick to that schedule. It may be helpful to also designate a bedtime and shutdown ritual. Read the rest of our tips and tricks by visiting our LinkedIn.
The Paris 2024 Olympics may have wrapped up over the weekend, but the GRF LA Office Olympics officially came to a close last week! Our Encino and Century City team members individually competed over a span of two weeks in Rubber Band Archery, Pencil Toss Javelin, Mental Gymnastics (AKA Trivia), Mini Basketball and Mini Cornhole, in addition to going head-to-head in team sports like Paper Plate Frisbee and Mini Golf. Congratulations to all our gold, silver and bronze GRF medalists!
Keith Miller, head of internal audit and bank operations at GRF LA, is all about continuous learning and development. He holds several certifications related to fraud examination and audit, including a CIA and CPA, and boasts degrees in theater and accountancy. He is also an avid fisher with a passion for writing screenplays. “If you are willing to struggle, you will be able to push yourself and evolve,” he says. “Avoid getting complacent; keep learning and keep growing.” The “Employee Spotlight” series introduces our firm’s diverse, talented professionals and highlights their notable extracurriculars. We hope their stories provide a more personal perspective of life at GRF.
Our GRF LA team had a blast at the annual Friends & Family Summer Picnic over the weekend! This year, we held our event at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. Though it was a scorching day under the sun, our team managed to keep cool with fun games, delicious bites, and – of course – the most thrilling rollercoaster rides befitting of “the thrill capital of the world”! Many thanks to all of our employees and their guests for coming out to celebrate the season with GRF – we had over 700 people in attendance, making it the Firm’s largest summer event to date. Where should we go next year?
Meet Anthony Barone, a GRF Intern based out of our Wilmington, Delaware, office! Anthony is a recent alum of UDel, having graduated with a degree in Finance and a minor in Economics. He is soon returning to school to pursue a Master’s degree in Finance. Anthony rejoined the GRF Business Management internship program this year as an Assistant Bookkeeper, building on his prior experience at the Firm and expanding his technical skills into more challenging tasks like bank reconciliations and journal entries. Anthony shares that the program has afforded him an opportunity to further understand clients' needs and priorities, which will help him to navigate a career in business and to establish working relationships with future clients.
