      Entrevista

First interview was with a few team members online typing C code into an online compiler. They had me debug code that wasn't working and write code to solve a programming problem. Team members friendly and helpful. It was almost like a collaborative experience. Second interview was on-site and I came into and talked to maybe 5 - 6 team members include project managers. They mainly asked about my experience and how I would deal with different situations. Again, everyone was very friendly.

      Pregunta 1

How would you handle a situation where you are given a problem to work on but there is no on who can help you?

      Entrevista

It was a thorough process. I interviewed with Continental for ~1 month (January 27 to February 20, 2023). There were 4 major "milestones" in my case: 1) An online, automated test that has two parts (January 18, 2023): i) Analytical thinking -- you're given a series of charts/graphs and you have to answer questions using the information found in the graphs. These graphs give you information about things like the budget allocation of a company to its various departments, the growth/decline of the company over time, etc. You're given ~20 minutes to finish the test. ii) A logic test -- you're given a series of figures, all of which have a certain pattern to them. The task is to figure out whether each figure belongs to one of two groups: group 1 or group 2. Which group the figure belongs to depends on some pattern. For instance, if the pattern is that the figure contains only letters, then it belongs to group 1. If the figure contains only numbers, it belongs to group 2. They will give you some figures with the corresponding group so that you can observe certain patterns. Then, they will give you some more figures and ask you to determine which group these figures belong to. The patterns become more and more subtle as the test continues. ~20 minutes required to finish the test. 2) 1st interview (1 hour, technical) (January 27, 2023): This was a mix of hardware questions and coding questions. I was given 3 coding questions: two of them were simple pointer questions and the objective was to figure out what a certain piece of code returned as a result after execution. The 3rd question was a variation of the fizz-buzz question -- in my case, it was to write an algorithm to determine whether a given year is a leap-year or not. The hardware questions dealt with whether or not I knew a little about computer architecture. They asked me questions about RAM/Flash memory, Program counter (PC), instruction register (IR), how an ADC works, how interrupts work, what architectures have you used and what are the differences between them (e.g. PIC18F vs. ARM-cortex m0/m4). 3) 2nd interview (1 hour, technical)(February 10, 2023): This one was a bit more discussion oriented with a coding question at the end. The first part of the interview was spent on discussing my previous work experience, and I was asked in-depth questions about my projects. The coding question was to write an algorithm that will return the number (i.e. position) of the most significant bit set in a given integer. 4) 3rd interview (1 hour, technical)(February 20, 2023): This was also discussion oriented with a code review question at the end. They were interested in the projects I had put in my resume and so I did an in-depth design review of my projects with them. They asked me questions about my design decisions, what pitfalls I encountered, and how I overcame them. The last question was a code review question in which I was given a function with a poor choice of name (so that I didn't immediately know what the function did), and I was asked to correct errors found in the code, and then determine what the code/function did and returned.

      Preguntas de entrevista [1]

      Pregunta 1

1st round: 1) What is a program counter? 2) What is an instruction register? 3) How do interrupts work? 4) What is an ADC and how does it work? 5) Analyze a circuit and give its output characteristics (it was a very basic resistor circuit. I had to determine the voltage, current and the equivalent resistance). 6) A coding question on pointer arithmetic (what will this code return?) 7) Another question on pointer arithmetic (what will this code return?) 8) Algorithm to determine if a given year is a leap year or not 2nd round: - Some questions on my previous experience (e.g. give details about how I debugged issues in the code, what my role was, explain the design decisions made by the team, etc) - An algorithm to determine the position of the most significant set bit in a given integer. 3rd round: - Questions about my projects (i.e. how the project works at a technical level, why I chose the components I did, why I made the design decisions that I made, what the workflow process was like, etc) - A code review question to figure out what an unknown function did, and correct some errors sprinkled in the code.
