The first Monday in May. Filmmaker Janicza Bravo wore custom Tory Burch, designed in collaboration with multi-disciplinary artist Rashid Johnson. Tory referenced three artworks in his Guggenheim retrospective for the fabrics, and the silhouettes were inspired by Belle da Costa Greene, the visionary Black librarian who built the Morgan Library’s collection in the early 20th century. Pamela Anderson also wore custom Tory Burch. The event celebrated the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” a cultural and historical examination of Black style over three hundred years through the concept of dandyism.
Our NY offices were pulsing with excitement as 50 extraordinary women entrepreneurs – the 2024 cohort of Tory Burch Foundation Fellows – arrived for three jam-packed days of panels, workshops and community building as part of the yearlong program designed to grow their businesses. The kick-off event: a conversation between Tory Burch and Foundation President Tiffany Dufu. In a wide-ranging discussion, the two covered everything from Tory's early years building the brand to generative AI and all stops in between. “Being able to learn from somebody who's been so successful, and [has built] a brand we all know and love is just amazing,” said Taylor Tieman, lawyer and founder of The Legalmiga Library®️. It was an engaging start to a robust program with proven impact. As Tiffany was quick to point out, “Entrepreneurs who participate in our programming stay in business longer, are more likely to surpass $1M in annual revenue, and secure funding at higher rates than their peers.” The secret sauce: community. “That’s the most important resource we can offer our fellows,” said Tiffany. “Community is pretty much the answer to every question.”
We’re honored to have many tenured employees at our company and each month we recognize those celebrating their 10-, 15- and 20-year anniversaries with us. In December we arrived at a unique milestone: seven people marking a decade at a single Tory Burch boutique in Shanghai. “I am delighted to celebrate this truly memorable occasion with the other six team members from our store, who are not only colleagues but also like family,” said Summer Xia, Store Manager at our Qingpu location. “Over the past ten years at Tory Burch, we've always respected, understood and accepted each other, working together to make a pleasant and harmonious workplace.” A heartfelt thank you and congratulations to Summer along with Ketty Cui, Coco Lan, Lin Yang, Anka Yao, Angel Yu and Andy Yuan!
To celebrate the opening of our pop-up at ZOZOVILLA, Japan’s luxury online shopping destination, we created an exclusive campaign, A Japanese Summer, featuring our new limited-edition capsule collection. “Tory Burch X Zozo is an exciting initiative for Tory Burch Japan and an opportunity to inspire customers with our collections, starting with our summer capsule,” said Edouard Roche, President and Representative Director, Tory Burch Japan. Shot in Tokyo, this video evokes the spirit of the season in Japan from shaved ice to sandals. Discover the summer campaign in collaboration with ZOZO.
The rabbit’s out of the hat in Paris where earlier this month we introduced a new concept space at our boutique on Rue Saint-Honoré featuring the work of German photographer Walter Schels, whose animal portraits appeared in our Resort 2024 collection. Beginning last month and continuing through September, a large-scale image of Schels’s portrait of a bunny repeats along the exterior of our store, while the cat’s out of the bag throughout the interior: an image of Schels’s portrait of a cat, mid-meow, recurs along the walls of the front room on the ground floor and continues on the mezzanine. Bringing a touch of Los Angeles and Shanghai to Paris, the space nods to our concept stores on L.A.’s iconic Melrose Avenue and at Shanghai’s Kerry Centre.
We recently unveiled our distinctive “Destination Anywhere” pop-up concept traveling to three luxury department stores in Japan. The voyage began at Shinjuku Isetan The Stage in Tokyo earlier this month and continues at HankyuUmeda Cotocoto Stage11 (June 19 - June 25) with the final stop at Iwataya KIRAMEKI BOARD (July 3 - July 9). Wrapped in a bold take on the zebra pattern, each location is distinguished by immense, maze-like T sculptures covered in a zebra pattern — no two stripes are alike — in a soft shade of blue and features our summer capsule collection. Inspired by Tory’s love of travel, passed down by her elegant parents who traversed the globe in the ‘60s and ‘70s, the “Destination Anywhere” concept is a celebration of the season and the beauty of the journey.
We’re thrilled to welcome this year’s summer interns! Our 2024 cohort — 47 strong — includes students from colleges in the United States and internationally as well as five people from our Tory Burch retail stores. The group will be spending 10 weeks in our New York corporate offices learning about our business while getting great on-the-job experience in departments across the company. Tory Burch, CEO Pierre-Yves Roussel and Chief Legal Officer and President of Corporate Development Robert Isen welcomed the group on their first day and shared some advice for making the most of their experience. “Internships are a great opportunity to try things,” said Tory, recalling an internship she did at Christie’s in the Chinese Art department. An art history major at the University of Pennsylvania, she had been intent on pursuing a career in the art world. Then, after graduating, she was offered a job as an assistant to the fashion designer Zoran. “I ended up falling in love with it,” she said, “You just never know your course. You have to be open to new ideas and new ways of thinking.” Words of wisdom for all the interns out there. Here’s to an amazing summer of learning new skills, meeting new people and gaining invaluable experience that will serve you well into the future!
Tory Burch is pleased to welcome two new members of its executive leadership team. Christophe de Pous has joined us as President of North America; he will oversee the brand’s Retail, E-commerce and Wholesale operations in the region. Beverly (Garrido) Morgan has been named Chief People Officer, driving all aspects of the company’s hiring, retention and employee engagement strategy and execution globally. Pierre-Yves Roussel, Chief Executive Officer, said: “Christophe and Beverly are seasoned executives with deep experience in the luxury industry and I look forward to working with them as we continue to build on the great momentum of our business in North America while scaling the brand globally.” Tory Burch, Executive Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, added: “I am happy to welcome Christophe and Beverly. It is an exciting time for our company and I could not be more appreciative of our entire global leadership team.” Welcome, Beverly and Christophe! We wish you success and joy in your new roles.
Congratulations Tory Burch on being included in this year's TIME100!
At Tory Burch, we love a challenge. We also love to celebrate new products. In anticipation of the new season and to mark the launch of our T Monogram collection in runway-inspired spring pastels, we invited #TeamTory to answer a few questions about this iconic family of handbags. The correct answers were an automatic entry in a raffle to win a Mini T Monogram Contrast Embossed Tote in a seasonal shade of Olive Sprig. Naomi Uoto, a sales expert in our Ginza flagship and one of our contest winners, took her prize tote on a recent outing in Tokyo. “This bag takes me to a wonderful spring place,” she said. Us, too!
