Believe the other reviews. The interview process from start to finish was the most ridiculous waste of time, and unless you’re dying to work for an antiquated tech company masquerading as a top online publication, I would stay far, far away. This all started when a recruiter contacted me via LinkedIn to chat about the open role (in finance content) and while I work for a top competitor, it’s yahoo, so I figured it was worth a call. The first recruiter I had was great; she was communicative and helpful. Unfortunately, she went on maternity leave quickly into the process and I was stuck with a backup recruiter who clearly didn’t have any interest in communication. I had my initial call, which was followed by a hiring manager call. From there, I completed an unpaid edit test and when I passed that was sent to panel. Everything went fine. I was supposed to get an answer within a week or so from the end of panel, but there was no communication. None. I reached out for an update and was met with silence. Fine. I figured maybe it was off the table and moved on. But then, a full month later, the same awful recruiter reached out and asked if I was still interested in the role, as I was “certainly still being considered.” I said I was, and she said there would be a decision by weeks end. Well, that didn’t happen. And that’s fine — I understand things happen with the process, but there was zero communication again. I reached out again for an update to see if the team was still on the timeline she had expressed, and received a generic “thanks but no thanks” e-mail a few days later stating that while the team had good feedback on me, they went with someone else. Not only was it a confusing ride, to say the least, but that final update-slash-rejection was nearly two months after the panel. I’m not upset about not being hired by this company. I don’t think it would have been a great fit. What I’m shocked and annoyed about is the complete lack of communication and disregard for candidates’ time. Surely the team knew within the last two months that they wanted to hire someone else. It would not have been that hard to just communicate it — and why come back and ask if I’m still interested, only to send out a generic rejection? I have never seen a company treat a candidate like this — and if you look at other reviews, it’s certainly not only me who experienced it. Yahoo needs to get it together. I’m appalled by how badly they treat potential employees during the recruiting process and would never recommend a colleague consider this company due to its awful hiring process.
