I received a phone call to do an in person interview, scheduled the interview, and then went to the interview. I had an interview with HR and then the nurse manager of the unit. They go through a list of questions that they have in front of them, where they write down your answer, and rate you. You also have to sign a consent form to do a background check. The questions they asked include: 1. Why do you want to work here? 2. How did you hear about us? 3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 4. What made you most proud of being a nurse? 5. How did you handle a difficult situation with a coworker? 6. What did you learn recently? 7. What made you want to be a nurse? 8. Tell me a little bit about yourself. Each interview lasted about 30 minutes. The HR interview was relatively quick. The nurse manager on the unit was a bit busy, but didn't seem to be concerned about the interview and kept leaving the room during the interview. The nurse manager then offered me to shadow on the floor. I accepted the offer to shadow but came on another day. I just think it's inappropriate to ask someone to shadow since time needs to be taken off from work (on another day) and the costs associated with travel (since some people live a bit out of the way). It's just better to be straight forward and tell the interviewee that he/she didn't get the position, so it does not waste his/her time or the managers. When I went to shadow, no one seemed to know that I was coming to shadow. A secretary had to ask around to see if any nurse was willing to let me shadow him/her. The nurses were pretty busy with their patients. It was just awkward for me to stand there.
