After answering a questionnaire, watching videos about the gameplay and answering questions about them, and submitting a video, I was contacted to complete the first round of “interviews.” Except it wasn’t an interview, it was myself and 2 other applicants playing one of the games the students play.
The interviewer was curt, very briefly went over the company’s 5 mantras, explained that we were going to play one of their games, and then she didn’t speak again until the end. No rules were given and we tried to work together to figure it out. The other people I interviewed with were very nice, but it was a difficult balance between trying to show my skills and not talking over the other people. After we played 2 rounds, the interviewer told us our time was up and somebody would be in touch. Then she ended the call.
I was contacted the next day and told that I was not chosen to move on to the next round, which was disappointing. I’ve taught elementary students online for years, was nominated for “Teacher of the Year” at my school, and was consistently praised for the relationships I built with students, so I expected to go further. I do not feel that this interview process is a good indicator of what would make a facilitator successful.
