Submitted my application through their website, no other platforms in between. Got contacted a couple of hours later to set up the phone screener. It went well, I took a short online coding quiz (no leetcode here) and had the technical interview with a technical manager at SpaceX (some behavioral questions, some general questions about threads and networking basics), then they had me execute a take home assignment with a problem related to the position.
My performance in the technical interview was very average, so I appreciate that they still went ahead with the take home test. A few days after that, I sent a short email asking for an update and a few days later got the automated rejection email. The technical interviewer asked a lot of pointed questions about the experience I had chosen for the behavioral questions, which I was not expecting. Had I gotten past the take home test I would've endured a presentation about the solution and a series of interviews with potential colleagues.
Overall the process was quick and fair, and the two people I spoke to were courteous and professional.
