Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 3 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Roku (Santa Monica, CA) en ene 2020

      Entrevista

I applied online early Jan and the recruiter was very efficient in reaching out to me to schedule a phone interview. She rushed through the call to be honest and didn't ask a ton of relevant questions because she felt I had "one of the strongest backgrounds" just by looking at past companies and roles I've had. Shortly after, I was pleased to learn that I was scheduled to speak with the hiring manager of the team I was hoping to join. That went really well and was straightforward, and the next day I was thrilled given I was asked to come in the following week for a 4 hour on-site interview to meet with 5 people. The entire team was super personable, friendly, and we hit it off extremely well. I walked out of that interview feeling very good. My 30min last interview with the hiring manager, turned into a full hour and we really connected well. I was then contacted a few days later by the recruiter again requesting I send over a list of references, which I did promptly. The next day, the recruiter gleefully informed me that I was receiving an offer, claiming the team was raving about me and felt I'd really "shine" in this role, and that they chose me over a more seasoned candidate because of how prepared, professional, and passionate I was about joining Roku. On that same call (as well as a follow up), we even negotiated/agreed on salary, benefits, agreed on a start date, and she told me I'd be receiving a written offer letter within 24 hours. I also received confirmation that my reference feedback was all great. Well, 3 days go by sans written offer, and sensing something was off I follow up with the recruiter who then asks me to hop on a call for a "quick chat". She tells me that unfortunately there is now "internal discord" and that while the team is very "interested in exploring [me] as a candidate", some senior level executives don't feel I have enough experience in X area. This was a huge blow to me and extremely confusing. I really didn't appreciate her backtracking and pretending that there hadn't been a full blown verbal offer. She told me I'd have to wait a week for an update as to whether they could continue "exploring" me. A week later, she sets up another "quick chat" via email, where she then tells me there is no good news, and that the team had to unfortunately restart the candidate hiring process entirely. I was livid that I didn't get a chance to actually speak to any of these senior executives to actually address any of their doubts, and I was absolutely devastated that I missed out on what would've been a dream job for me. I had prepared like I've never prepared for this role, and the bait and switch was just awful. This was absolutely the more unprofessional and hurtful experience I've ever been put through by a company. I turned down other interviews during that time since I was told they were choosing me. I cannot recommend Roku to anybody at this point, and everybody who I tell this story to is equally stunned by the handling of this. Roku, you need to do better. This was not OK, and I hope you've learned from this.
