The company’s recruiter reached out to me via email asking for availability. Responded and received a phone call within a few days from the recruiter. A couple of days later, spoke with the Assistant Controller via Zoom. An on-site was scheduled for the following week to meet with five members on the Finance Team. Only two showed up on the actual on-site interview. The Controller seemed shocked that I didn’t have the “preferred” number of years in accounting and he gave the look of “how did she pass the initial two rounds of interviews” to his assistant. The interview was scheduled for an hour but it ended within twenty minutes because I didn’t have the “preferred” years of experience in accounting. Overall it was okay. Ended up just asking them a bunch of questions regarding the company and position. However, wish they would have told me that the number of years “preferred” actually means “required”, it would have saved the Controller’s, his assistant’s and my time. In short, actually have candidates who meet the majority of the requirements go on-site instead of just sending everyone. Also, would have been nice to an acknowledgment email if a candidate sent a “thank you” email after the on-site interview or at the very least receive a generic rejection email.
