I applied for the business analyst position online and found the entire process to be professional and fairly casual. RealSelf is upfront and transparent about their reasoning behind the planning and scheduling of different checkpoints in the interview process, and very purposeful about not making a candidate feel outnumbered or uncomfortable at any point of the interview.
Everybody I met was amazing, but I communicated most with Leslie Mills, the recruiting coordinator. I hope she is the first person that every potential employee meets because she has a natural way of adding a little positivity and happiness to any situation, even over email. Her personality became the personality I associated with the business, and while RealSelf presents itself as a very positive company anyway, being associated with Leslie isn't a bad thing.
The process was straight forward, a phone interview with a recruiter followed by an at-home assessment of logic and technical skills, for which I was given a generous 24 hours. A conversation with the hiring manager, again over the phone, and finally the on-site interview.
The on-site interview was very long, but for good reason. After being greeted by Leslie, I was scheduled to meet with five people. The meetings were scheduled for 45 minutes each, which was exhausting, even though I was being offered breaks and refreshments. But this is a purposeful decision by RealSelf, and while it was exhausting, I still believe it is preferable to sitting in a single, shorter meeting across from five brilliant people simultaneously. I had plenty of nerves just meeting one-on-one, five-on-one would have been excruciating.
I didn't get an offer, but I still felt the overall experience was good. RealSelf was my first technical interview since I graduated, and I only wish I would have interviewed with them later, after I'd had more practice with technical interviews. However, it is a learning experience and I will feel more comfortable interviewing for future companies now that I have a better idea on how to prepare.
