To me it was not clear who they want but the way I was told about it seems that anyone that dresses well and looks good can get the first interview. Is that good or bad? Depends on what you need in an interview. Second interview is quickly scheduled for those that "qualify". I was also led to think everyone can "qualify" if they want to... keep reading. Recruiting process was informal but requested to dress appropriately and business-like. If you do not ask questions, you will not find out that you have the pleasure of paying for all your business expenses, like your own car, gas and phone. According to the partial answers I got there was clear indication that there is NO real sales assistance in your assigned territory. You get a couple of days of online training. They pay you nothing for your work (that's why it is easy to "qualify") and are able to collect free lead and market information (business names, contacts, current electricity provider/vendor, contract expiration date, consumption levels, etc.). When I asked if this is about being a contracted sales position, they told me I would be paid 1099. Hey, on the other hand, they have their refrigerator stocked with all sorts of energy drinks and water (all arranged in order by a very OCD person). Music is energizing and the place looks like a fun place to hang out. They would not describe the commission structure and danced around about how people make money (except that I kept being told over and over and over and over that some make a lot of money). Isn't that why you are in sales - to know how much you make for every dollar sold? Questions related to what a typical day looks only explained that you will spend all day in the field in the assigned area. Questions related to closing a sale were actually not answered. At the same time, there were points made that were unsolicited. One was that folks show up at 5 AM to workout and shower at the office and like to hang out late at the office and discuss the day. The other unsolicited point made over and over is that some folks make a lot of money. The interview reminded me a lot of the multi-level marketing opportunities being promoted by various outsourced or brokered sales operations. They build you up on the premise that you can make a lot of money in selling electricity to businesses.

Had an initial phone screening, a one on one first interview with the head of the office I would be working in and then my final interview with upper management which I liked because I got to get a fill for what my day to day interaction and office was like but also got to meet the head/decision makers which set the tone of what I was potentially walking into. Both interviews we're completely different for those reasons.
