Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 2 meses. Acudí a una entrevista en Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) en abr 2014

      Entrevista

It was an all day process with a morning interview at PCRD with staff and key stakeholders. The afternoon was spent meeting with community people who would at times interface with the position. Some where prepared, some were not. In retrospect, this portion of the process felt a bit like a popularity contest (who's cuter, funnier, nicer, more male...Oops, I said it. This is Indiana, after all). One community person admitted to me she had "no real idea" what I would do should I be offered the role. (Then why was she on the interview committee?) The person vacating the position was involved. She had been ineffective in the role for a couple of years, but as an act of kindness, I suppose, she was offered a chance to help hire someone who would get the program running again. I was told that everyone who interviewed me that day (19 people) would have an equal vote in choosing the candidate. That's just plain wrong. That to me is the department leader abdicating his role and discounting his team's ability to choose the right person. The man who didn't have the competencies for the job was chosen. Not a surprise. I sign for me to look elsewhere.

      Preguntas de entrevista [1]

      Pregunta 1

The questions for my interview for a promotion were professional. There were no bizarre "what kind of animal would you be" moments. There were no behavioral questions from the department staff, however there were from the community people. (They probably relied on an internet search of job interview tactic to prepare.) They department staff questions were forward thinking, such as how would I handle real issues faced by the department, what is my understanding of relevant subjects, and so on. I was given ample time to prepare my presentation for the interview and all questions, breaks, and my presentation lasted about three hours. We broke for a group lunch and then I was sent out into the community, which is when I dealt with people who really should not have been involved in the selection because they were ill-informed and in some case, not well prepared.
