Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 1 semana. Acudí a una entrevista en Pentagon Technologies (Portland, OR) en sept 2024

      Entrevista

Where do I even begin with this? Absolutely don't apply here (especially if you are female!) The application process was fine, I applied on Indeed and HR reached out to me to schedule an in-person interview. She was very nice during the phone call and took time to explain what she knew about the role to me. She also mentioned that Pentagon Technologies' HR department is very new, despite the fact that the company has been in business for several years. I didn't get any red flags from this. The first red flag came the second I walked through the door. The main interviewer shook my hand, took my resume, and immediately commented that he wasn't impressed with my major and there was no work for me there (I have a bachelor's in engineering, not chemical, manufacturing, or mechanical). He handed me over to another employee, who gave me a tour of the facilities (~20 min.). I spent another 90 minutes in the conference room, with a revolving door of employees walking in and out, which was incredibly distracting. Because of this, I answered the same question several times to different men because they weren't there the first time I answered it. When I explained my prior work and research, they would cut me off and ask me to explain technical concepts that I mentioned to them in detail (as if testing me to see if I really knew what I was talking about). At one point, the main interviewer demanded to know why I didn't ask another engineer what an acronym meant when it was brought up, as if it were a "gotcha!" moment that I wasn't paying attention or was too uncomfortable to ask questions. This wasn't the case, rather it was extremely difficult to get a word in edgewise. They also cut me off and spoke over me incessantly, which became very irritating over the course of the hour and a half interview. At one point, two of the men were whispering about me while another attempted to ask me a question, which was very anxiety-inducing and unprofessional. I wouldn't bring this up, but it became very obvious by the end that they were treating me differently because I am a young woman. The main interviewer sent everyone else out of the room at the end to have a one-on-one conversation with me. It began by asking about my salary expections, then quickly turned into very uncomfortable personal questions. He asked if I was married, had kids, or was expecting to become pregnant. I was absolutely shocked by this. He then told me he refused to hire any woman who was or was planning to become pregnant, because in his opinion the facilities weren't safe for pregnant ladies. He said he was very firm on this and had retracted offers from women in the past due to this. I was surprised he was so open about blatantly violating federal Equal Opportunity laws. He also asked if I was comfortable working with primarily men, many of which were, in his words, "politically incorrect". I immediately withdrew my application after this experience and contacted HR about the misogynistic comments. To her credit, she was absolutely shocked and apologized to me several times, even taking the time to speak to me over the phone about it. All in all, I wouldn't recommend interviewing here, at least until they fix their interview process and educate their men on how to treat women in the workplace.
