El proceso tomó 3 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Otrium (Ámsterdam) en jul 2024

      Entrevista

Hurry up and wait. I'm still waiting. Submitted my application online. Got in contact to set up the standard screening phone call. This was pretty normal and I was informed the process might be a bit fast as they wanted to close out the position by the end of the month. Almost as soon as I hung up I was asked if I could attend a technical interview the very next day. I agreed. The technical interview was pretty odd if I was to compare it to every technical interview I've done before. I would be interviewing with a team member and a security engineer who did devops at some point. I hopped on the call and the two engineers were on time and ready which was awesome. We attempted to conduct pleasantries but the security engineer was pretty rigid, emotionless and just very straight forward. At this point I just let them guide the meeting which created awkward silences due to the lack of a friendly atmosphere or the desire to create one. For the proceeding 45 minutes I am machine gun fed questions by the security engineer. My potential colleague only asked 2 questions at the end and those questions were more personal in nature. The role asked for AWS skills and I've been working in GCP for the last 4 years and I was transparent about this every step of the process. It was brought up a lot actually. However in the question section of the interview, I was not asked any real cloud questions let alone specific to AWS. The rest of the questions were basic enough, where if you spent 15 minutes working anywhere that does their own building, shipping and deploying of microservices you can answer them with confidence. There were no real "technical" questions or problems I was asked to solve however there was mention of a case study at some point and I chalked all this up to weeding out the really bad applicants (foreshadowing?). I was left with 8 minutes to ask my own questions at the end. Not cool. A week passes and I've not heard anything. This is a stark contrast to my experience just 1 week ago. So, I reach out with an email, a simple poke of "should I move on?". Ghosted. I took the time to look at the Glassdoor reviews Otrium has and noticed this trend that aligns with my experience where the process is slow or you're straight Ghosted. 8 may 2021 Software Engineer (slow) 17 July 2021 Senior NodeJS (2 month slow) 22 May 2021 Software Engineer (slow process) 20 Dec 2021 Senior IOS Software Engineer (6 weeks to be rejected) 20 Feb 2022 Senior Data Analyst (3 weeks for reply) 4 June 2023 Backend Developer (No response even after follow-up) 7 June 2023 Paid Social Manager (slow) 3 Nov 2023 Software Engineer (extremely slow) 7 June 2024 Analytics Engineer (Lack of timeline) 11 June 2024 Senior Backend Interview (Ghosted) Every one of these reviews has a reply indicating Otrium is working on this. It's a serious problem if it takes more than 3 years to figure out.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience with our interview process wasn't as positive as we aim for it to be. It's never our intention to make candidates feel "ghosted" or to have delays in the process. The summer months can be a tricky time due to the holiday season, as some of our decision-making team members have been away, which may have contributed to the slower-than-usual communication and response times. Regarding the interview process for this role, our approach in the first round is to cover a broad range of topics to gauge overall technical knowledge rather than diving deeply into any one area. This helps us get a comprehensive view before potentially moving forward with a more detailed Case Study. Unfortunately, in this instance, we realised the role needed to be re-levelled to a more junior/medior position during the hiring process to better match our needs as a business - which, ultimately, would not have been suited to you due to your level of seniority. We're sorry for any disappointment caused and we wish you all the best in your job search. Best regards, The Otrium Team
