This was a thirty-minute phone screen which was, in a word, frantically delivered. The interviewer seemed like she barely had time for a quick Zoom call and looked like she might have been multitasking during parts of the call.
There were a few things the interviewer said that I'd describe as pretty severe red flags:
Q: How has the culture of OpenAI changed since you've worked there?
A: I've been here just under a year ... If you've been here longer than two months, you're considered a veteran.
Q: What's the direction-setting like at OpenAI? Is it top-down, bottom up?
A: It comes from all directions.
Another red flag was when the interviewer brought out the well-worn "this is a startup environment," line (subtext: too much work and too many tasks per employee).
