My first interview was done directly with an engineer which I found to be a plus, he made clear technical questions without any gotchas or things like that. After that I got a coding challenge, complete with Figma and a template, unfortunately, the Declarative UI components in the example were outdated concerning the Design. I was instructed to design the JSON from the API to be scalable, the same is required for the coding approach to the problem. They use formik but I used react hook form, it generated all the step pages and fields with validation dynamically according to the backend response. They didn’t approve it, I wasn’t even invited to explain my approach to the problem which I’ve found to be disrespectful especially since it is (as described by them) a challenge that might take up to 6 hours to be done.
