      Entrevista

Awful candidate experience. I was scheduled to meet with the hiring manager and kept checking in after for feedback to see if I was still in the running. There was significant scarcity from the recruiter to stay in touch/connected, in sharing feedback, providing updates, etc. I always had to check in and one time she replied back to my email around 2-3 weeks after I had sent it. When I didn't hear back frequently, I just assumed I was no longer in the running. Then come to my surprise she emailed back saying I was still being considered and they were still trying to identify a slate of candidates to move to the next round (so it has literally taken them at least 2 months now to figure this out). Mind boggling to think that this is the candidate experience for HR roles in the organization and this is the taste that HR candidates are left with.

Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 2 meses. Acudí a una entrevista en NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (La Canada Flintridge, CA) en feb 2018

      Entrevista

I had a 30 minute phone interview with hiring manager. One month later I was invited onsite for face to face interviews. I was on campus from 7:30am - 4:30pm interviewing the entire day. Lunch was also an interview, and it was rushed for 20 minutes, since the morning interviews ran over. The two people I went to lunch with were very rude and intrusive asking me personal questions. No time to talk and I was rushed off to my afternoon round of interviews. I talked to a total of 25 people the entire day, mostly panel interviews with 2+ people, and only 2 meetings that were 1 on 1. Out of the 25 people I talked with, only 1 person was genuinely nice and interested in me. There was an intern that walked me from one building to another and she was also nice. Onsite interview schedule: 1. My first interview was 45 minutes with the hiring manager. 2. Next was a 60 minute presentation in front of 20 people. I was sent the topic a few days prior to the interview. I had my presentation ready, but there were issues with getting the laptop hooked up to the screen, and that wasted 20 minutes. I had my presentation set for 1 hour. With 20 minutes wasted, I had to rush through my presentation and no time for Q&A. The audience was so detached and multi-tasking. One person was falling asleep. At the end, one person asked why I picked the topic I talked about, and said it wasn't related to the interview. My reply was that the topic was sent to me in advance, obviously the group had no idea what was going on or why they were even there. The hiring manager who sent me the topic to present on, didn't even prep the group on my arrival. I felt like they were invited there at the last minute, and the room wasn't even ready for my presentation, so disorganized. 3. There were two more panel interviews and lunch (rushed and unpleasant). 4. In the afternoon, 4 more panel interviews. At the end of the day, no one walked me out or mentioned next steps. The people at JPL are very stuck in their ways and wasn't looking for a person that was different (younger, female), 90% of the people there are white males, very stuck in their ways and was looking for someone like them. I didn't see any diverse people there, only a few women, it was sad. It was like a college campus, mostly men walking around. I couldn't believe how rude they were and they didn't even bother to offer me water or a break in between interviews, it was a long day non-stop. After the interviews, it took 3 months to get my trip reimbursement back. The travel/scheduling coordinator didn't know what she was doing and could not explain the reimbursement process to me. I am glad I didn't get the job offer, I knew at 12pm that I didn't want to work there and I was ready to leave. I wanted to just walk out the door after the rude lunch, but decided to go through with the day. I was alerted later that I was only there to interview to be a part of the process and the offer went to another person who knew a manager. I wasn't surprised. One of the managers told me that he got his job there because his friend hired him, and he didn't even have to interview. I would never want to work there. The people are rude, the campus is boring, there are many other better companies in California to work for.
