      Entrevista

      Unfortunately this was a bit of an odd experience - I had a lovely chat with the internal recruiter in the morning who asked me a range of specific and generalist questions around what I was looking for and my experience. I then heard back around midday asking if I could attend a first round interview *that evening* at 5pm - with no prep or expectation setting of the format or process. (I appreciate thinking on your feet is part of a senior role, but it's still a good look to set people up for success) I had plans but I decided the role was interesting enough that I could rearrange those plans to meet at 5pm. I met with the Director of Design who was a lovely person, but unfortunately they came across quite stressed and frazzled, which translated into the conversation - the questions were fairly sporadic and surface level, and didn't really dig into any specific scenarios or experience. More than once they had to stop to think about what they would like to ask next - I would have expected at this level to have a consistent interview structure across candidates so they could appropriately benchmark, with questions/structure prepped beforehand. I didn't hear back for an entire 7 day week and only then it was after I emailed the recruiter for an update. It was a no - which is totally fair enough - and I was offered detailed feedback should I so desire. I requested that feedback and did not hear anything back ever again. What I feel slight anger towards is the lack of respect towards candidates in this process: - Requesting a first stage with almost no notice and preparation doesn't set anyone up for success. - Not having a consistent and fair interview structure allows bias and subjectivity to creep in. - Not provided feedback when Motorway were the ones to offer in the first place is simply disrespectful. My advice here is to think about what you want out of an interview process - whilst I may not have been the right candidate for you, I would stress that the goal is to attract the right talent for your business - not find people who are willing to jump through a chaotic interview processes. These two people are often not the same!
