The interview process was long and drawn out. I believe I found the role online. I applied online. Several days later I heard back from the hiring manager, and we had a phone interview. Then, I spoke with another engineering manager for a second phone interview. I was giving a coding assignment (fairly simple exercise). I heard nothing back after turning it in for a couple of weeks. I finally contacted the hiring manager to see where we were in the interview process. Then another interview was setup between the same two people I had just previously spoke with weeks ago to review the code I had written where it was critiqued. Weeks later an interview was setup. Interview was typical, nothing too hard. Again, I had to initiate the process to see what the next steps were. Hiring manager and recruiter weren’t proactive in the entire process unless I called or initiated. It was bizarre in some instances, I’ve seen larger organizations move this slow, but not a start up.
Some of the interview questions weren’t clear. Nice people. Throughout the process, I couldn’t really gage what they were looking for. Questions varied from database design to data lake design and architecture to apis. Questions about family life came up, too, I was hoping the interview would be fair more technical. Questions about cloud infrastructure or architecture weren’t brought up.
