I was approached in LinkedIn by a contract recruiter working for Legrand. We had a screen call and he liked me as a good fit, submitting me to his inside recruiter contact. We had a screen call and I think she was neutral about me at best. Forwarded me on to speak with hiring manager. We had a great call.
I got a call from the contract recruiter that they were, "very, very, very impressed" with me and they'd like to have me spend time on-site interviewing further. The hiring manager also asked me to do a fake work exercise, which I'd present on-site.
Did great work, really went above and beyond, on the assignment. The day of the interviews, I met with an HR person, engineering, general manager, and a product manager. HR, eng, and PM all really seemed to like me. GM seemed ambivalent. Lunch in the cafeteria. Presentation went fine. GM was checked out, on his phone. Energy in the room seemed positive.
Next day, I got word that another company was preparing an offer and I shared that with the recruiters, internal and contract. I got a call an hour later from the contract recruiter that "they were going with the other candidate."
A couple of days later, the position was reposted.
