Initially, I was very enthusiastic about Kinetix. They seemed like an MSP with a positive vibe that might care about their employees. However, their hiring process is the strangest and most cult-like thing I’ve been a part of since accidentally ending up at one of those door-to-door sales con-man type pyramid scheme “interviews” in college. The process: First, I was asked to reply to an email about what I did to make a client thrilled with me. Ok, done. It also asked why I was interested - aside from needing a job during a pandemic? Well, sure - answered that, too. Next was the first interview - where they asked me the exact same things... Then I interviewed with the “CCO” or some such nonsense - chief cultural officer, I think? And HE asked me the same questions. Then I had a third interview with... someone else, I can’t remember who. I figured it would finally be technical, since no one had asked me a single question to gauge my actual competency for the position, yet.... nope, you guessed it: same exact questions. So now they want me to interview with the CEO - who apparently has enough free time on his hands to ask the SAME QUESTIONS the other three did, then proceed to tell me that they fire 30% of the people they hire. I did not move past the fourth interview and that is probably a blessing. Here’s a hint: if you’re so concerned with the success of your company, especially in a fast-paced world like I.T., it might be more pertinent to ask technical questions than to have four people waste time giving the exact same personality inventory quizzes... ...unless you’re literally hiring to get people in a cult, which I honestly started to feel like was happening. They told me to keep an eye out for positions in the future, but I will be avoiding them due to this experience - way too weird, even for the unique startup-filled and hipster friendly area that is the Bay.
