I applied online and participated in a phone screen with recruiters. On the plus side, they were transparent about their timeline, and that helped me better manage my own pipeline as I was actively interviewing with other companies.
The role has been open for nearly a year to the best of my knowledge. That is almost always a bad sign, and I'd say the same here: The comp package is extraordinarily low given the background they want. It's what you'd expect your first year out of a top MBA program. No wonder they can't find anyone; the desired candidate literally doesn't exist in their price range.
In any case, the hiring manager didn't want to speak with me even though I met the listed hiring requirements. (Sounds like the hiring requirements communicated to the talent team were insufficient.) That's fine. Happy to unwillingly volunteer my time to help the hiring manager figure things out. When I was promised the team would get back to me with feedback I nearly laughed. Needless to say, it never came.
Recruiter reached out. Despite the negative Glassdoor reviews, I took the call with her since it was just informational. During the call, I provided my salary range which was comparable to my current salary and within the typical range of a GM in LA's tech market. Recruiter said she'll check with the hiring manager but didn't think it would be too far stretched. But few days later, she came back and said that my salary range was too high. When I asked about their range, she gave me a number that is typically paid for a senior manager at most companies. This was not a surprise since many Glassdoor reviews mentioned IB's penchant for paying their employees way below market value. I declined to proceed further since I was not willing to take a huge pay cut just to work at a company with mediocre product, benefits and culture.
