I was referred through a recruiter, there was no strict job title provided nor a full job description available. I had a telephone interview, followed by a face-to-face in which I discussed with a consultant where my strengths and weaknesses lie. I then had a second face-to-face interview with the technical director, as he was on leave for the first interview. After this, it was requested that I rate myself on a scale of 1-10 for about 20 different technical abilities. - The problem was that the company did not know what they really wanted before they started the hiring process, so (and I was told this over the phone) they ended up with a strange mix of candidates who all had quite drastically different skills. Whilst the lack of preparation on the company's part as far as knowing what role they were actually filling sounds bad, I think it was an honest mistake and they were just hasty to comply with requests of staff. Everyone I met was perfectly lovely and the company itself seemed like it would have been a great place to work.
