Recruiter contacted on LinkedIn about interest in relocated to roles in USA. Replied that I was
Did a phone interview with recruiter, 40 mins about what I work on and am interested in, learned about Groupon and relocation. I was told there'd be a tech screen call with an engineer, if successful I'd be invited to a hiring day in Sydney or Melbourne Australia which would be 4-5 interviews. If successful they'd let me know within 1-2 weeks with an expectation to relocate within 2-3 months. Recruiter was friendly and answered all of my questions well
Did a phone technical screen - quite easy, was implement my own atoi() in c
Recruiter got in touch a few days later, I'd done well, would I come to an interview day in Sydney a few weeks later. Many engineers were flying out to Australia and I'd be required to do 4 back to back interviews during the day
I took a day of work and went along to the hiring day. I had four interviews. 2 I did very well in and answered the questions with lots of time to spare with working solutions, then built on top of these with additional problems
3rd interview didnt go well, I was stumped by the question and took the completely wrong approach
4th interview was ok, the coding question was easy but was followed up with some harder system design questions i didn't answer as well as I could have
After 4 interviews I was thanked by the recruiter who promised to get back to me the next week, if not the week after. 2 months later and I haven't heard anything.
I'm not surprised or disappointed not to have got the job - I knew I did badly in the third interview. However after taking a day of work and travelling a long way to attend, I find it pretty rude I haven't even got an email to say thanks but no thanks..
All the interviewers were extremely nice and friendly with me, and answered questions about their experiences at groupon. Many had moved over from Australia in years gone by so it was good to get their perspective on things. 1 interviewer was not so good, he came in to the room, didn't even introduce himself, asked a question then stared at his watch the whole time and really didnt interact with me.
