Entrevista
After applying, I was asked to complete a questionnaire. Several days after submitting it, I was invited to a screening videoconference. The recruiter mentioned they were impressed with my responses to the questions. They scheduled a technical interview videoconference for the following week, to be followed by a behavioral interview videoconference a few days later. As soon as I turned on my cam at the technical interview, I could sense I did not fit the interviewer's preconceptions of what someone in this role should look like. I believe I completed all of the troubleshooting steps successfully. Nonetheless, several days later I was told they have decided not to proceed and by implication, they second interview was cancelled (even though I had already made time in my schedule for it). It was disappointing that they did not let the interview process run its course, and get feedback from several interviewers rather than the one person who seemed to have made up his mind early on in the interview. GitLab talks a good game about diversity and inclusiveness, but I find this unconvincing based on my experience of their interview process.

The technical interview consisted of my opening both web and SSH connections to a server, troubleshooting error messages, and documenting this in their issues tracker.

It was a bit harsh, I passed the technical interview. I was able to solve all the issues but then got a one word regurgitated message from a recruiter telling me I didnt pass that stage.

Troubleshooting different Linux logs in a GitLab failed instance
It was great. The process had multiple stages and took a while, as they are genuinely focused on finding the best talent that truly matches their unique team atmosphere and culture.
It started with a fair first assessment, followed by a recruiter call, and concluded with a technical interview that involved troubleshooting scenarios. The interviewers for this round are team members.
