I received a phone call from EB HR about a month after I applied. They wanted to set up an on-site interview, but gave the option of doing a phone interview first. This is a little weird, since it seems like EB must waste money on candidates which aren't pre-screened, but the process seems to work for them.
An outside travel agency helped me set up a rental car and lodging for the interview. Most candidates from greater distances will probably fly, which they also cover.
My interview began at 8am, but they told me to arrive early to get my parking pass. One thing to note: as a visitor, you cannot bring any electronics (computers, phones, e-readers) onto the premises. So be prepared not to have your phone for a few hours. I sat around until about 9am, punctuated with a fact-checking session with an HR person. Then the candidates were rounded up and taken on a short tour of the shipyard and machine shop. Unfortunately, my tour guide was randomly chosen and knew very little about the shipyard.
After the tour, I was told to take the 10am EB bus/shuttle across the river to the New London engineering office. I was met by my interviewer, who escorted me up to their section. I met with 4 engineers within the group and had a free lunch (within the EB building) with a 5th. My interview was done around 1pm, and I took the bus back to the first office to drop off my badge. I also had to get fingerprinted prior to leaving.
The interview went extremely well, and I was told that I would hear back from HR soon. I did, got a good offer, and accepted.
