I didn't get as far as an interview. I was given one of those IQ tests (the ones that ask what the next shape is in the sequence). I got a rather good result but was then told the pass mark is 100%! This completely wasted my time and is at odds on what a developer actually does for a job. I write code and I'm good at it, Gelato are missing out on talent for this rather unreasonable test to be taken.

I applied via external agency. Initially my application was rejected, they wanted someone more experienced with Golang. But they contacted me again via the agency and invited to the initial interview. I was asked the following questions: 1. What do you know about the company 2. Give me an example of a situation where you had to resolve a complex case / apply problem solving skills 3. What is the reason for a move 4. Do you have any other questions The answers I gave: 1. I read about the company on their website and talked about what I read including the 3 main services that they develop, the fact that they have no physical assets (their own printing facilities) etc. The interviewer said that I did not research about the company enough and that he did not have time to talk about the company himself. He was not happy with my response and decided to move to the next question straight away. 2. I gave an example of a situation at my current role and I had to do. And he immediately moved to the next question. 3. I started with saying that one of the reasons was relocation. I was interrupted to be told that it is not the "right" reason for considering a move in quite a patronising tone. I had to politely interrupt them myself here as I said I did not finish and gave other reasons why I was looking. 4. I asked them about work and life balance, how company doing financially i.e. whether it already profitable or not, when company was founded (as I could not find this information online). I did not get an answer about work and life balance, re profitability was just told "it is unicorn already", was told that company is 15 years old. Overall my experience was quite negative unfortunately and it felt like the interviewer was trying to get the interview done asap. For a company which supposedly promotes "culture" first - this was the most awkward (to say the least) interview I have had in the last few years.
