Interview process was much more of a get to know and understand basis about the job that was required and how the individual would take on the responsibility. Real world applications, background, and thoughtful experiences shared by the interviewer to understand them as a leader. The approval for a final interview led to very high status employees in the company which allowed the individual to feel connected within the company, not just a number.
