I applied online and got a call several weeks later to arrange for a phone interview. The phone interview was approximately 20-30 minutes long and involved three managers. They all introduced themselves and explained what they do at the lab and the projects I may be involved in. I made sure to write down their names to send thank you e-mails afterwards. Then, they essentially asked me why I wanted the job and if I could explain a bit more about my senior engineering project. I asked a few questions, thanked them, and it was over. A few days later, I got a call to arrange for an on-site interview. Fermilab arranged my flight, cab, and hotel. I was also told to prepare a 20 min presentation on my senior engineering project. The day of the interview, I was picked up at my hotel and brought to WIlson Hall HR. I was given a schedule for the day and had my first introduction and interview with the HR rep that initially called me. After that, the day was spent in 30 min-1 hr interviews with various engineers and managers. Everyone was very nice and the environment was laid back. I gave my presentation around mid-day in one of the conference rooms. It was a long day, but I again made sure I wrote down the names of each person I met and sent them a thank you email the day after the interview. After a few days, I heard back from one of the managers that they wanted to offer me the job.
