      Entrevista

      With no prior experience in finance and only very rudimentary foundational knowledge of it, I was initially a little surprised when a FactSetter expressed his interest in me at a school career fair. Next thing I know, I was at a one-on-one interview at my school's career center chatting with one of FactSet's senior consulting managers, who seemed to take an immediate interest and invited me to an on-site "super day" of interviews on the spot. The final round took place in their San Mateo office in a rotation of about five or six 30-minute one-on-ones with various managers. First, a newer consultant showed me a demo of the software and then I began the rounds of interviews. Each were clearly looking for a different skill, from Excel aptitude to interest and knowledge of finance to ability to problem solve and think critically and then your typical behavioral interview questions. The process was rounded out with a group puzzle-type activity during which all the interviewers observed how we interacted and contributed to a team effort. The day concluded with two consultants taking out the entire final-round group to lunch and giving us a chance to ask questions about life at FactSet in a more relaxed setting. Everyone at the company was very approachable and the work culture seemed fast-paced and productive but also fun. The company is very young, with the majority of consultants appearing to be between the ages of 22 and 28. I got a bit of a "greek like" vibe from a lot of the people, which was apparent as during lunch, the whole "what fraternity/sorority were you in" motion consumed a large part of the conversation. I knew I did not do well at the final rounds and was not expecting to hear back with good news. Unfortunately FactSet did not contact me at all, despite saying that I would hear back within three weeks. I found this slightly unprofessional.

      There was an initial virtual interview with HR and then an interview the the manager from the US. HR lady was friendly and was fast to respond to emails. The manager didn’t seem experienced in interviewing, he said so himself and went for someone that didn’t require onboarding training. He said he doesn’t expect knowledge on equity when being quizzed on it but yet the reason for not getting the role was lack of knowledge on it. Was not pleased with this misleading behaviour. The decision felt rushed as they only gave a reply once I emailed so felt like they already had the candidate chosen.
