Top scores on the FDNY civil service test are required. Background checks are very thorough and extensive. The whole process from initial civil service test, to date of hire will take at least 1 &1/2 years and may take up to 5 years. Physical fitness is an absolute must. The academy is long and grueling.

Your most difficult questions will all come in the academy which will be based on material they provide you with to study and learn from
Process to get hired takes a very long time. Well worth it but kind of leaves you in the dark wondering where you are in the process. However, this is expected with any city agency.

If you promote from fdny ems, there's no interview process, just the medical. If you do the right thing in EMS for the officers and your patient, you'll be ok.
