* This is lengthy but worth the read* First step after applying is a phone screen, which, in addition to vague interview questions, is more so their way of making the position and the company seem as appealing as possible. The second step is to complete an online assessment, which easily one of the most unethical and invasive experiences I've had in a hiring process. Online assessment in detail: Expect to be assigned an associate who works for a third party company overseas to assess you. I had to take this assessment twice due to their own technical problems and both times each associate had the audacity to not just take over my computer and mouse to control everything, but forced me to show them my entire immediate surroundings (in my home) as if I were under house arrest. Was I asked to show my I.D. in front of the web cam to prove my identity? Yes. Was I asked to show the computer screen to the associate via "selfie mode" on my phone to prove that I wasn't hiding anything even though they took over my computer already? Yes. When I was writing on scratch paper to solve a problem did the associate interrupt me and ask me to point the web cam towards said paper to monitor my activity? Yes. I kept telling myself that this is all a part of the process (psychological evaluation) and tried to stay neutral but I was livid inside. The test itself, I think, is irrelevant aside from speed being important. I was told in the initial phone screen that the test is taken by everyone - dishwasher to executives. But who knows. The third step is to come in for an in-person interview and to tour the "campus" - but I did not make it that far. I asked why I didn't make it to the third step (and beyond would be an offer, I guess), and was told the following: "We review a number of highly qualified applicants and are unable to share specific reasons as to why we choose to move forward with one candidate and not another. This is to protect the integrity of our interview process and remain fair to all of our candidates [...] Due to a high level of interest, we hire those that appear to be the best fit with our available positions." A canned response, but I hope it helps. I spoke with a few mentors who happen to be upper management and executives for their respective companies. They have never heard of a company, such as Epic, conducting such invasive and unethical assessments on their candidates. I applied to be a technical writer and would never expect to feel so violated applying for the same position anywhere else. My guess is that the hiring process is merely the tip of the iceberg of why Epic has such a high turnover.
