My first interview was a standard screening call with a recruiter, which went smoothly. However, my second interview left much to be desired. I had a Zoom call with two data scientists from their Brooklyn office -- one specializing in forecasting and another employee whose experience was more aligned with economics. The interview began with a discussion about the role's responsibilities, followed by questions about my experience and interest in the position. They also asked me to describe my work with complex datasets (paraphrasing) and whether I had experience "working with energy". While the senior interviewer was courteous and professional, the junior interviewer seemed dismissive and perhaps insecure about my qualifications as I discussed them. Based on the conversation, I am hesitant to believe that either of the interviewers read my resume. This lack of preparation was disappointing, as it made the conversation feel unproductive and one-sided. Overall, the process left me with the impression that the company doesn't value candidates' time or make the effort to approach interviews with the professionalism one would expect.
