The recruiter I spoke with was very polite and kind but the interview raised a few concerns. When I asked questions about the role and the company’s processes, the answers were often vague or uncertain. It gave the impression that the organization is currently very unstructured and sounds understaffed.
The role was described in a way that suggested there aren’t any real project management processes in place. Instead, the expectation seemed to be that the new hire would work closely with engineers to figure out how they prefer things done and tailoring the process to avoid tension rather than implementing standard workflows. There was a lot of emphasis on teaching engineers project management best practices, which to me signaled a lack of internal alignment and maturity in operations. They also had in the ad that they were willing to be flexible with the budget they had for this role but they were not. They also mentioned they were not open to the idea of any remote work or hybrid work in any capacity.
