I was first called by the head of HR who asked me a few basic questions about my background, what I knew about Edelman and its healthcare practice, and why I applied to this internship. She also gave me a very helpful introduction of the healthcare practice and the team. I was then invited for an in-person interview the following week. The in-person interview consisted of two parts: the first was a conversation with the same head of HR I spoke with over the phone, who again chatted about my background and talked a little bit more about the scope of work for an intern. The second part included two managers from the team, including the manager who would directly oversee me during my internship. They asked me a lot about what I thought about PR and why I wanted to be involved. They also really went through my background experience, asking me to list ways in which my previous experience might be useful to the team. They did their absolutely best to ensure I knew it was alright I didn't have a background in PR, and also gave introductions of themselves and what they did at Edelman. I was allowed time at the end of the interview to ask a few of my own questions. After the interview, I was given a writing and editing test, which was to be completed overnight. After I submitted this, I think I heard from the head of HR within 2-3 days offering me the internship. She was extremely helpful and easygoing in terms of working out my part-time schedule with me. I have since completed this internship and joined the team formally.
