Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 3 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en DoorDash (San Francisco, CA) en ene 2017

      Entrevista

The thing you have to understand about this company is that they are very young personnel-wise. Basically if your over 30 you’re the minority. So you’ll be interviewed by 23-year-old's with limited interview experience so if they don’t like you, you’re toast. I applied online and got an email a week later to schedule an introductory phone interview with HR. About a half hour long with basic questions and explanation on the company structure a bit. It wasn’t for the job I applied for, but something else. I give HR a lot of credit for having the foresight to see a potential quality candidate and finding other roles within the organization that could be a good fit. Most other companies just see whether you’re a fit for a single role and then either invite you in or kick you to the curb. They then give you a bunch of data and give you 24 hours to give them some recommendations in any format you deem necessary. It’s intentionally vague, but it showcases your Excel and SQL skills. After that you’ll have a Skype interview where they will go over a few questions along with some basic cases where they see how you think and if you can get to the final answer. This takes about an hour. Then a few days later they invited me in for 4 interviews at 45 minutes each. I came into their office (which looks cool I have to admit) and was given a tour by a nice guy from HR and then was placed in a room for my interviews. The first guy had about 2 years of consulting work straight out of university and decided to give me a use case style interview. Consulting case interviews are supposed to be vague and you’re supposed to ask more probing questions to try and understand what they are looking for. The problem was that the answers I received were also vague and when I asked more clarifying questions he referred back to the original vague question. I was from another industry so I didn’t understand what specific things he was looking for. Eventually I got the answers he liked, but I have to admit it took me a bit because I’m unfamiliar with the intricacies of the business to that level. We did this for 45 minutes and then magically there was a problem that needed everyone’s attention and I was told they would reschedule the rest of the interviews. Two days later I got a call saying I didn’t do well enough and they’re canceling the rest of the interviews. I don’t mind getting cut. It sucks, but I’ve cut people I’ve interviewed before and that’s life. But I feel I’m at least deserving of a bare minimum two people’s opinions of me including the hiring manager’s opinion. Especially this late in the process, when I’m called in and take time out of work to do so. I had three times the experience of this guy and spent a lot of time preparing and going through the process. Getting cut by a pretty much entry-level employee’s limited interviewing experience is unwise and insulting. Interviews are meant for the company to test the interviewee’s skills and for the interviewee to sell themselves to the company. Only half of that opportunity was provided.

It started with a recruiter screen, and then an analytics exercise. After the analytics exercise, I had one 1st round interview. I then moved to the next round in which I had 4 interviews with members of Biz Ops and the Finance team - all of them were case interviews. I then got moved on to the next round where I had 2 more interviews (one of which was with the CFO). After this DoorDash pretty much went silent for a month. There was barely a response to my emails and no decision was made. They stalled for a whole month at which point one of the people who had already interviewed me decided to interview me again. They generally ask very good case questions and the team seemed full of really bright people; however, their recruiting practices seem very unprofessional given they just disappeared for a month and did not communicate with me at all.

Mainly case questions about their business - lots of questions about how you would use data to assess the impact of any product or business related changes (pricing changes, launching a promo in a market, etc.)

Communication with our candidates is one of our top priorities and I apologize this was not reflected in your experience. We would be happy to chat more about where we can improve and to provide you more detailed interview feedback, so please feel free to email us at recruiting@doordash.com.
