I passed the HR screening and was scheduled for an interview with the hiring manager. When I logged on, nobody showed up. After waiting 10 minutes, I sent a reminder email, and received a reply within 30 seconds saying they'd "be right there" as they had just come off another meeting. When they finally joined, the interviewer had very messy bed hair and a visibly tangled headphone cord. They had clearly not been in a meeting, they had forgotten the interview entirely. The person who showed up was not the hiring manager I was told to expect, but a team member, and they showed disengagement the whole process. What makes this especially galling is that CHAI explicitly demands attention to detail, compassion, and responsibility from candidates, traits their own hiring process failed to demonstrate at every turn.
