I was approached by a third party company to interview for a recruiting role at Checkpoint Technologies. There were two parts to the interview process, first was a phone screen with one of the directors and the second was a panel interview with the same director and the two owners of the company. It was very straightforward, I’ll give them that. They made it very clear in what they were looking for and it seemed like a good match.
I was offered a job with Checkpoint and had all the intentions of starting with them. As previously stated, it seemed like a really good fit based on what they were looking for and we seemed to be on the same page when it came to expectations. What ruined it for me and made me pass on this company was what came after I got the offer. I got a call one week later from the director I interviewed with, and he said he had a new ETL role that he wanted to get started on. He asked me if I had any leads on a good candidate that we could put in front of the client this would be in service to. Now, at this time, I hadn’t been on-boarded with Checkpoint, I hadn’t gone through a background check, and I hadn’t started with them yet because I wasn’t finished working for my previous employer. This really seemed to be in poor taste to me, asking to get started on work before my scheduled start date. It wasn’t fair to the company I was still working for at the time. It’s not ethical.
I decided to pass on the offer after considering what had happened.
