I applied over the weekend and got a response earlier in the week. I responded with the times I'm available for an interview but they didn't get back to me until 2-3 days later. Their excuse was that my email went into spam. When it was time for the actual interview, one interviewer out of the two came late and had the audacity to make huge assumptions about me because of my race and mental status. (This role requires you to have lived experience with mental illness, by the way) It was a humiliating and degrading experience for me. I was interviewed by two directors and they were very ableist and sanist in describing the people who I'd be working with. They said people who live in Jersey city and Newark (high population of people of color) are rough to deal with and are dangerous because of where they live and their mental illnesses. They were quick to disqualify me even though I have experience helping people with serious mental illnesses and lived experience with serious mental illness. Not only were they ableist and sanist towards me and the people they serve, but they were also very racist. It's appalling that people like this work here. It was disgusting and turned me off that they were so insensitive and condescending towards the people they serve. They also didn't have much to ask me during the interview. It was more of a conversation but an awkward one at that where they were quick to disqualify me based on my race and mental health.
