Process took about one month. Went through entire interview process and started out great. Phone screen, first interview with sales manager, interview/ mock territory plan with sales leader, then loop with one sales team member, one coach, and then two non-sales people.
All of the sales interviews were great and felt like a mutual strong fit. The final loop felt good but the first non-sales person (sales enablement but no real experience in sales) responsible for the discovery exercise was clearly inexperienced and looking for someone to fit a specific mold. Newsflash...top sales people don't fit a specific mold, they stand out by definition.
The final exercise is where the interview experience fell apart. They tell you not to prepare or worry about it. It's a GTM exercise and they want to measure and judge how you think. The PhD who does this is stone cold - others who interviewed shared the same experience with me. If you don't think like they want you to think, you won't get an offer. They expect you to know exactly what to do in a mock GTM exercise when its not even related to sales.
This is a classic example of how non-sales people and an exclusive hiring process get in the way of hiring top talent. They don't want unique people who think differently, so if that is you then don't bother. They go by a script and expect you to fit a specific mold - hence exclusivity at its finest.

What is your super power?
Mock territory plan + mock discovery call
Tell me how you would go to market in this scenario...
A lot of questions on why do you want to work here to see if you align culturally
Practically no behavioral questions or anything about your successes or history - mostly just cultural and mock exercises. Very little opportunity to ask them questions.

I interviewed at BetterUp 2x, for a total of 14 interviews for an account executive role. Both rounds required many hours of preparation.
The first time I did 6 interviews. After the 6th interview I was told I didn't have a necessary skill and I should go get it at another company because BetterUp did not want to train that skill. So I did that.
Several months later, I came back and interviewed again. I was required to do the same 6 interviews. This time I was told after the 6th interview that I did the best job on that skill possibly that the interviewer had ever seen and she gave me a "gold star."
I moved on to the next round, I next met with a VP who also passed me on to a final round. I anticipated the final round would be a "congrats, you made it this far" warm kind of tone, but I could tell from the moment that the interview started that the interviewer did not like my resume or me. I left wondering if this was a psychological tactic to see how I handled someone being cold to me.
I didn't get the role. I was told by the recruiter "It's us not you. Come back again." Apparently a founder was supposed to do the last interview for the first 1000 employees and they weren't available that day, so a different senior leader did the interview. She said they were going to restructure the interview process. After 14 interviews, and 6 months of effort, I won't be trying a 3rd time. For an individual contributor role, this is by far, the most time I have ever spent on an interview process. In the end, I walked away from BetterUp feeling completely turned off and disrespected.

Long complicated and demanding and meandering. Not clear on steps and asked for supporting docs. Seemed to be a formula on questions rather than a conversation. It seemed very canned and long.
