The interview process was okay, if a little lengthy. I got on with everyone but it seemed a little heavy-handed. I've worked for more established companies with more prominent cultures and had a more streamlined process. My main complaint is around the design challenge as it seemed I was set up for failure. I completed the design challenge to a vague brief with the idea that we would discuss it, what could improve, and more. The response I got around the design challenge indicated that I should've focused on different areas – but this information was not in the brief. Had I been given the opportunity to ask questions about the brief, or even have some expectations set up front, I could've delivered a design challenge that was more in line with what they were delivering. It's clear that they had a specific designer in mind when hiring for the role, and it was disheartening to find out that they put me through that whole process in a way that seemed to lack clarity or transparency.

You have an initial call with the hiring manager where you learn more about the company/role. The second round was a series of calls with various members of the team (developer, product owner, hr, designer). The session with the designer was the longest and it was a case study review.. Throughout our 1hr long session, the designer asked me less than 5 questions. My interview ended after the second round due to certain design skills not being as present throughout my case study review. This was odd to me as the interviewer never asked to see more of that particular skill in my portfolio work (or ask about it at all…) Overall, it felt like they made way too many assumptions and didn’t ask me enough questions during the review with the designer.
