I had one sit down interview with the VP that would be my boss along with 2 peers. The interview went well. I made it known that work life balance was important to me during the process and we had talked about work life balance at the org.
I initially got the offer and saw that it had a work schedule of 8:30-5 (although it’s full time salary and would be expected to work more hours at times due to escalations or projects that took priority). I mentioned to HR that I would need to leave a half hour early 2 days a week due to child care. I explained that I had a very young child and that those particular days of the week I wouldn’t be able to complete more work until the child went to bed.
1.5 weeks after being given the offer , accepting it, and mentioning this issue I was called by HR and my future supervisor with their withdrawal of the offer because of my inability to work past the work schedule stated within the offer letter 2 days a week. They mentioned that I should have mentioned this schedule issue in my interview. There was no mention of specific times of work schedule in my interview and they had explained that they prided themselves on being a great family company with work life balance so I thought my request would have been an easy one. I was willing to come early on those days and work after hours the other days but unfortunately that was not good enough.
This was definitely an unfortunate situation in a variety of aspects especially since at the time of the withdrawal of their offer I had already given notice (they had knowledge of this). I am very disappointed in the situation and feel that it should and could have been handled better.
