Talk with the field researcher and see if it's something you want to do. Not much pressure and since this is a "part-time" position, there isn't much formality with it.

I had a direct face to face interview with supervisor / researcher. They were in need of a new assistant for the summer season, and had asked around about high school aged grads with math competencies. After some persuasion from others, I looked into the opportunity and arranged a face to face interview.
