      Entrevista

As a candidate, I've taken part in 30+ interviews to this day. Most of them were pleasant, some not as much, and a few I'd rather forget completely. If somebody asked me to pick one interview that stood out (in a good way), I would not hesitate even for a second. Ataccama. Let me explain why. The interview consisted of three rounds: (1) recruiter screening, (2) home assignment + technical and (3) team fit. Pretty standard stuff - however, the execution and the details matter a lot. During the first round, I was expecting to be rushed through a lot of questions in a strict order - the classical checklist approach that needs to be done as quickly as possible and then onwards to the next candidate. Instead, I got to have a really nice conversation with Šárka Kousalová. Nothing felt forced, the topics flowed naturally, yet somehow we still managed to cover everything that was important. Kudos to Šárka, as you need a lot of experience and skill as a recruiter to be able to pull this off. The second round started out with an innovative home assignment. I was given a fictional merge request and my responsibility was to provide code review (the extent was left up to my consideration). Without giving too much away - the MR had a lot of potential for improvement and your feedback would end up reflecting your level of knowledge and experience in several areas. I have to say, not only did I have fun with the whole task, I also strongly appreciate the fact that the assignment was something practical and closely tied with the real day-to-day life of a developer. A few days after submitting my code review, I had a follow up call with Šárka and two hiring managers (HMs). We went over my recent projects, over the assignment, and finally onto problem-solving. Each question they presented was either custom-tailored to fit the projects I worked on, or based off recent issues the HMs had had to tackle. Some problems were more difficult than others and I wasn't able to solve all of them. At this point I thought I didn't make the cut. Nevertheless, I was always trying to explain my thought process at every step, ask follow up questions and was frank about my knowledge and its limits. The HMs were supportive throughout the call and appreciated my upfront attitude. After receiving positive feedback from the second round, I got invited for a meetup with the team. We had a tour of the office, went for lunch and then chatted over coffee. Everyone was genuinely nice and apart from discussing the company's product, we covered a broad set of professional as well as casual topics. Having the opportunity to get to know your managers on a more personal level before potentially working with them was a breath of fresh air. Needless to say, both of them are great guys with an impressive tech background. A little over a week went by and I received a job offer and the rest is history. I started working for the company a few months later. Throughout the whole hiring process up until my first working days, Šárka (and then later on also other people at Ataccama), did a stellar job of keeping in touch regularly, making me feel welcome and have something to look forward to.
