This was a phone screen. It was my first interview in over 10 years, so I was nervous. I thought it went well, but I couldn't read the recruiter either way. You know that feeling you get when it seems like they've already chosen someone else, and interviewing you was just a formality? That's the vibe I was getting on this call. Hence the reason I selected "Neutral".
I came prepared with knowledge of the company, it's product/services, and recent wins and rankings. It wasn't supposed to be a technical interview, and it wasn't. We talked about the role, the company, my prior Support experience and she asked if I knew SQL. I've been using SQL for 14 years (not including college), so my answer was, yes. She also asked if I had experience with issue and bug tracking software, like Jira.
The next day, the outside recruiter informed me I that wasn't chosen to proceed to the next step (a technical interview), because "I was not technical enough". I asked how they determined that, having been asked no technical questions. Unfortunately, they had nothing beyond the reason already given. I suppose it was the Jira question - I don't already know their tracking tool.
Overall, it was NOT a bad experience. I just felt they had already chosen someone for the role. The internal and outside recruiters were ALL really nice and easy to talk to. I was excited about this role (it seemed to match my experience)! Their product sounded interesting and marketable. And finally, the location was ideal.
I would absolutely try again if another role for which I am qualified opens up! This role interested me more than any other since I started searching. I just know now to be more technical in my non-technical phone screening, next time. Good luck!
