Entrevista para Technical Apprentice - Entry Level Engineer

Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 3 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Adcap Network Systems

      Entrevista

adcap initially attracted me for two reasons: the first was their qualified roster of highly experienced engineers (a couple dual-CCIEs as I recall), and the second was their clearly defined track to a network engineering position through their entry level engineering program. To adcap's credit it does appear that they are a growing company with several high-achieving employees making gains in a success-driven corporate culture. Further, it is true that they sponsor a development program that is uncommon, even if not entirely unique, within the world of network engineering. However, in the end my personal experience with their interview unfortunately mirrors many of those who have also interviewed for the technical apprenticeship entry level engineering program in that I found it to be a predominately negative experience. I went quite far in the interview process (passed the written exam screening, etc.) but by the end of the interview process certain key factors ultimately left me with a less than positive impression. Once you begin the process they are forthright with you about how your application was picked amongst a pool of hundreds, if not thousands, of applications for a handful of open positions. This is fine - it implies nothing but good marketing. The problem comes in when through the process of having your application selected for interview, then beating out fifty to a hundred candidates in a written exam that would be considered advanced by most of the intended audience, and passing two following interviews you are then pressured early on in the process to take a salary measuring somewhere in the range of 30k. Hardly better than helpdesk. Other factors such as being sent an excessive number of emails (including duplicate emails), an offer to enter a lottery to win a 'free' tablet by posting positive comments on their social media, and having to wait over an hour after my scheduled interview for the final in-person interview after taking time of my own to arrive 15 minutes early helped to contribute to a state of feeling undervalued, unappreciated and disposable. In summary, adcap seems to be a high performing company with a successful corporate culture and motivated fun employees. Perhaps once you get in the door all these great things going on over there start to become visible. Commenting simply on what I've experienced though, I would not recommend it to a friend and was able to secure a very fine job at a large player in the Cloud business with the same skills. Perhaps the tone of the interview process was colored by the fact that adcap receives such an overwhelming response of applicants to a relatively small number of open positions for the technical apprenticeship, however I would remark that this should not diminish respect shown to potential candidates and that their time and consideration is still valuable.

      Pregunta 1

The initial screening was written and consisted of questions primarily related to Cisco technologies. The test seemed designed to test real-world skills with a greater emphasis than theoretical knowledge.

Thanks for your feedback. First, the compensation for this position is WIDE OPEN and I try to make that very clear during the interview process. The salary range is anywhere from $15,000 year all the way to $95,000 a year. I ask the candidates to provide their desired compensation and explain our compensation model that offers a $5,000 raise after 90 days and quarterly raises. Yes, our experience is unique and we are always open to ideas how to improve it. The moment we offer a position that requires truly no experience and degrees don't matter, we have to be creative in the way we evaluate candidates. Regarding waiting for your final interview with our Vice President, that is unfortunate. The reality is meeting with a senior executive can mean schedules can get moved around quickly. Thanks and if you have any other suggestions don't hesitate to email us at careers@adcapnet.com
