Purpose of the position

The role will support the company in managing the full life cycle of its contracts, this will involve supporting the winning of new business and thereafter will be responsible for contract drafting and negotiation, managing contract changes and contract maintenance throughout its duration in order to maintain excellent customer relations and maximise performance on contracted activity. This role will be responsible for the appropriate flow down of customer contractual requirements in to the supply chain and thus this role will include support to procurement. The role will also be responsible for internal governance of this bidding/contract acceptance processes plus export / trade controls in relation to UK export/import and associated requirements such as US EAR/ITAR and EU regulations.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The role is accountable for the commercial activities within Slingsby Advanced Composites, ensuring that all undertakings are in the best interests of the business. Leading (cross functional teams in) the implementation of relevant processes and policies to improve or maximise company performance and minimise risk.

Responsibilities: (tasks or duties which must be performed well in the role in order to succeed)

• Acting as the customer point of contact for contractual & commercial matters
• Acting as process governance for bidding and contract acceptance
• Acting as the business lead for export/trade controls including latest export regulations, export licenses, EAR and ITAR, etc
• Implementation and maintenance of contractual clauses internally and flow down to the supply chain (in conjunction with our procurement dept)
• Encouraging good industry standard practice and self-assessment of quality and accuracy of commercial work.
• To minimise the contractual, commercial and business risk and exposure of the Company whilst maximising profit opportunity

Tasks: (a piece of work to be done within the responsibility of the role.)

• To ensure the efficient and effective transfer of commercial responsibility for newly contracted business in the delivery and performance phase
• Collating commercial data as required for bids and projects
• Providing advice, assistance and guidance on a wide range of commercial matters, including commercial support and contracts.
• Maintain knowledge in area of expertise and coach and develop colleagues.
• Maintain a close contact with Procurement staff.

CAPABILITY

Education: (List the level of education, credentials, license(s) or certificate(s) required. If applicable, list ‘essential’ and ‘desirable’ qualifications.)

• Degree level education, preferably in Law, but other subjects will be considered
• Member of a recognised professional body- Experience: (Identify the amount and type of general and/or managerial experience required. Experience should be based on the job requirements and not on the experience level of the incumbent)
• Demonstrable record of working in a commercial environment, working on complex contracts for a variety of and commercial civil and possibly defence sector customers
• In depth working knowledge of pricing, terms and conditions and other contractual documentation
• Capable of interfacing with senior company and customer personnel and all employees
• Understanding of defence/aerospace contracts, ideally DEFCONs, FARs/DFARs
• Understanding of UK Export/Trade Compliance Regulations and EAR/ITAR Controls
• Ideally worked with international customer base
