I went through the whole interview process with Wayfair for a Senior Product Manager position on the “Catalog” team. It was a 3-4 part interview process. I met with 9 people in total and then the director of the team for a Q&A once the interview process was completed. There was a recruiter screen which was about 30-minutes followed by the formal interview process. The process itself included a 45-minute call with the Hiring Manager, a 60-minute case interview and then a final round that consisted of 3 “behavioral interviews” and 1 additional case interview. The team as a whole was extremely engaging. The recruiter had a (shockingly) solid grasp of the team, what they do, and how it fits into the broader org. The interviewers were informative and people I genuinely would have liked to work with.

Questions were generally not anything out of the ordinary for a Product interview. A lot of the questions were data-focused and impact-driven. The case assessments were focused on a sort of "hypothetical area within the business that needed to be recreated". They were engaging and really push you to think as you would in the Wayfair environment.

6 long interviews.
1. Director of Product - Really good interview. Very knowledgeable and streamlined. Based out of US
2. Head of Product - One of the best interviews I have attended till date. She possibly had the best product knowledge I have seen in a leader in such a short discussion. Based out of US
3. Engineering manager - Decent generic interview. Based out of Bangalore, India
4. AI/ML head - Pretty good interview. Knowledgeable and helpful. Based out of Bangalore, India
5. HRBP Head, India - Really nice, casual discussion. Based out of Bangalore, India
6. Director of Engineering (Also the hiring manager) - This is where the hell breaks loose. The guy (Senthil something, Building Martech Engineering for Wayfair) provides a positive feedback during the interview and still chooses to reject me. His words - "you've answered the questions impressively". Opinionated right from the start. Seemed like he already made up his mind not to hire me.
He gave me a feedback that my previous experience doesnt align the best with the role by looking at my resume. That should have been done at the start itself right? If he was the hiring manager, how did he decide to go ahead in the first place. Dumb move, IMO.
If this guy was so important, why did they need to waste 8 people's time? He could've taken a decision right at the start of the interview process.
One of the best product interviews and still one of the worst overall experiences.
